Family Was Most Important

Mike Alegado was born in 1958, in a military hospital ,in the Philippines. His father was a World War Two veteran, who served in the military for 27 years. Alegado grew up in Pennsylvania, where he was a standout football and hockey player, before playing hockey at Villanova, where he earned his degree. Alegado approached Larry Sharpe from the Monster Factory, about breaking into pro wrestling. Alegado decided to get trained by veteran wrestler and promoter Mark Tenderlin instead, because it was cheaper.

Alegado debuted in wrestling around 1982 or 1983 , as hurricane Mike Kaluha. Early in his career, Kaluha teamed with Mickey Gillian in Empire Wrestling Federation and inDC Drakes CWA. Kaluha won the Empire State Wrestling Championship from Gilligan. In late 1983 Kaluha made his only WWF appearance, when along with other local wrestlers, failed to bodyslam big John Stud, who was offering thousands of dollars, to anyone who could bodyslam him. In late 1984 Kaluha appeared for ICW wrestling. For ICW he traded wins with Diamond Jim on the house shows, and teamed with John Callahan to lose to the Sheepherders  on TV.

In early 1985 Kaluha started appearing on AWA TV taping.s. The AWA suggested that Kaluha wrestle as a good guy, but Kaluha wanted to wrestle as a bad guy. On his first night Kaluha wrestled Curt Henning, Rick Martel and The High Flyers. The office liked his wrestling so much, that they asked Kaluha to bring on other wrestlers that he knew. Kaluha brought in Larry Winters, Lou Fabiano and Mark Pole. Kaluha impressed fellow wrestlers and the office, so the company’s stars started giving Kaluha offense in their matches, before they would eventually beat him. In September of 1986 the AWA started recording their TV taping in Las Vegas Nevada. Although Kaluha impressed the talent and the office, he was not made a regular for the AWA, which ended his run with the company . Sometime after leaving the AWA, Kaluha started a family, and decided to not to pursue wrestling full-time.

In March 1986 Kaluha was scheduled to wrestle Marty Jannetty on a pro wrestling  USA show In Baltimore Maryland, which featured wrestlers from the AWA and Jim Crockett Promotions.  Jannetty got stuck in the airport in Chicago, so Kaluha beat his student Tom Brandi in the opener. Around that time Kaluha returned to ICW, and received his first push on television. On ICW TV Kaluha beat The Mad Russian and JD Mcslade. Kaluha also teamed with Ron Sexton to wrestle The Hollywood Blondes on A house show. In late 1986 and early 1987,Kaluha teamed Tom Brandi. The new team beat the Mad Russians as well as Rusty Brooks and Red Roberts for the ICW tag team titles. In 1987 Kaluha and Brandi lost the tag team titles for good, when they lost to the Moondogs.

ICW was not the only promotion where Kaluha was pushed on TV in 1986 and 1987. Kaluha was also pushed on TV by DC Drakes new  NWF promotion. On NWF TV Kaluha beat Mark and Steve Sampson, Jim London, and his old teammate Tom Brandi. Kaluha also lost to his old AWA opponent, Sgt Slaughter on a NWF card. In early 1988 Kaluha wrestled in Italy, where he wrestled Shane Douglas to a double DQ. In Italy he lost to Tom Brandi, he again lost to Brandi, on A major ICW show that December. In late 1989 Kaluha  started an ICW feud  with Vic Steamboat, when he broke a coconut over his head. The feud carried over into 1990.

In 1990 Kaluha formed the tag team, The Tropical Terrors with The Caribbean Cyclone(Tony Ulysses) The Tropical Terrors lost to the Dynamic Duo in the semi-finals of a tournament, to determine the new ICW tag team champions. After Ulysses left the company, Kaluha formed a team with Cactus Jack, who had just left WCW. In 1990 Kaluha also made several appearances for Joel Goodheart’s Tri-state wrestling. For Tri-state Kaluha lost to Larry Winters by DQ. teamed with Brandi to wrestle to a double DQ by the Pitbulls, and he also teamed with Ron Shaw to lose to Brandi and The Chita Kid by DQ. That year Kaluha was also pushed on the Sportschannel for Rob Russen’s IWA. Kaluha won a few matches on IWA TV, before losing to Preston Steele, who was getting a huge push from the company

In early 1991 Kaluha lost to Kevin Von Erich  around the time that ICW was renamed IWCCW. In December of that year, Kaluha made his only appearance for Herb Abrams UWF, when he teamed with Wrecking crew, in a loss to Tom Brandi and Stevie Ray. Kaluha returned to IWCCW to wrestle Neil Superior to a draw. 1992 was also the year that Kaluha recieved a huge push, for the newly launched Eastern Championship Wrestling.  In the brand new ECW promotion, Kaluha formed A tag team with Scott Sommers. The team beat Jimmy Jannetty and Larry Winters, as well JT Smith and Hurricane Curry. Kaluha had huge moments in the early days of ECW. For ECW Kaluha wrestled Magnificent Morocco to a double DQ. He also won a battle Royal for the right to wrestle champion Jimmy Stuka, for the ECW heavyweight title. Kaluha was unsuccessful in beating Snuka for the title. When ECW filmed their first television pilot, Kaluha lost to Tommy Cario. When Eddie Gilbert took over as booker in 1993, he didn’t  have a spot for Kaluha. 

After leaving ECW, Kaluha wrestled ECW star Sandman to a draw, for Dennis Coraluzzo and Larry Sharpe’s WWA. Kaluha also wrestled on A UWS show, where he beat Larry Brisco.  Kaluha would return to ICCW for another TV push in 1994. Kaluha beat Ken Sweeney and Bert  Centeno, and teamed with Bastion Booger to feud with The Bushwackers, before the promotion closed Down in 1995. 

Kaluha still remains on the independent scene to this day.  On the independent scene Kaluha has won the PWF and World-1 tag team titles with Larry Sweeney. The 23K wrestling and Zero one United States singles titles, and  the ISPW tag team titles , with old friend Tom Brandi.

Kaluha  has trained Steve Corino and Al Phillips, along with  Brandi. Mike Kaluha has had a career that had lasted over four decades. Kaluha is loved and respected by his peers. Mike Alegado loves wrestling, but he decided decades ago, that family  was the most important thing in his life.
